January 20, 2007 QUILTING LUNCHEON

Princess ApriKat invited us to have lunch and learn to quilt at her parent’s beautiful home in Goodlettsville.  In attendance today were:  Cleopurrrtra Queen of De’Nile (Faye), Miss Kitty (Miss Kitty), Princess Pink Panther (Brenda), Lady Felina (Vivian),  Lady Glitter of the Litter (Sue), Dutchess AristaKat (Amy), Sassy Kat Woman (Shawn), Kountess Katnip (Samantha), and of course Princess ApriKat (Barbara).

Princess ApriKat introduced us to her mom (Lady Mary) and her aunt (Lady Martha) (who are twins) and told us all about this huge farm where she grew up.  It was beautiful property, and atop the hill where their home was built, you could see for miles.

We had a delicious lunch prepared by the Princess herself of slaw, her famous fruit salad and a croissant with homemade chicken salad, chips, and fruit tea.  It was such fun setting at the large table for 10 and chatting with our fristers.  Princess ApriKat always makes up feel “sew” comfy and special.

After stuffing ourselves, Lady Mary showed us around her beautiful home where she had her quilts displayed.  There were hundreds of quilts, all colors and patterns, log cabin, sampler appliqué, patchwork, wedding ring and more.  Several of the quilts had won ribbons at state and local fairs. Lady Mary and Lady Martha said they only quilt on the days that end in “Y”.  Lady Mary also had a collection of hand made teddy bears which were just adorable setting by the vintage cradle which she and her sister shared as babies.  We enjoyed seeing all the cross stitched pictures she had done – on LINEN!!  Many of us have done cross stitching in the past so we could really appreciate the hard work Mary had put in to each picture.  We toured the basement where the quilt is started and finished.  There were several small sewing machines and a large sewing machine/quilting frame which is used to finish the quilt.  We learned lots of new techniques and tools used in sewing.  It was so interesting to listen to Lady Mary and Lady Martha.  They both seem to have such passion in making each of their quilts.  Quilting truly is sharing yourself with others.  All these quilts were so beautiful, there really is something about a handmade quilt that warms the soul!

We then headed back to the dining room and enjoyed a scrumptious chocolate dessert.  Princess ApriKat had each of each a special goody bag of bath products, lotions, lip gloss and candy.

Princess ApriKat made us all feel “sew” special today.  In the crazy quilt of life, we are glad that you are in our block of friends!!  It was such fun just relaxing, laughing and chit chatting.  Thank you “sew” much Princess ApriKat, it was all “sew” purrrrrfect!!!
