John William Francis (France) Perry

John Francis Perry...

Special to the Nashville Banner 10/12/1914 page 12

John Perry killed himself and his third wife Sara Cole with a shotgun at their home near Witham on Saturday evening about 2:00.

The wife received the whole load in her throat and death must have resulted instantly. After committing the terrible crime he turned the shoygun on himself, placing the muzzle to his left ear and discharging the other barrel of the gun, tearing off the whole top of his head, scattering the brains several feet away. It is said they had been getting along badly and frquently quarreled, and shortly before they had quarreled, she had packed her clothes and was going to live with her daughter by a former marriage. Just before the tradegy he went to his daughter's who lived about 250 yards away, and borrowed a gun, saying he wanted to kill a rabbit. On hearing the shooting his little grandson ran to the home of his grandfather and found his step-grandmother lying in the kitchen door dead and his grandfather in the last agoniess of death. There was no eye witness to the tradegy.

His remains were interred Sunday on his farm, his wife's remains were carried to Pleasant Grove for interment.
