Malone, Randolph A. MALONE AND ALLIED FAMILIES. Ann Arbor, MI:
McNaughton & Gunn, Inc., 1986. Page 9-10. "Nathaniel Malone,
son of Daniel Malone Sr., is considered to be the ancestor of most
southern Malones. His will is the oldest Virginia will in which
children are named, and is dated Jan., 1732, probated 21 Mar 1732
(in Southwark Parish, Surry Co., VA)....He is believed to have been
born between 1670-1680....He married Mary Wynne, born about 1677 and
the daughter of Capt. Thomas and Agnes Stith Wynee, who was official
interpreter for the Indians and justice of the peace in Surry Co., in
the early 1700's....Nathaniel lived along the Prince George and Surry
County border and owned land in both counties where the Nottaway River,
Stony Creek and Sappony Creek were located, amounting to a known 870
acres...On 3 Nov 1707 Thomas Wynne deeded a gift of land "on ye south
side of Jones Hole Swamp" to his "daughter Mary Mallone" proving the
Wynne-Malone relationship....In April, 1712 Nathaniel Mallone was
cited by the Prince George Co. Court for trading with the Tuscaruro
Indians which was forbidden at that time, and was bonded 25 pounds for
his future "good behavior". In 1717 he was enlisted as a witness with
regard to those who encouraged some Indians to attach another tribe.
Again in 1718 he was before court, this time in regards to a suit
brought against him by the "Saponie" Indians. It seems that another
tribe had captured a Sappony Indian maiden and made a slave of her.
Nathaniel bought the Indian slave girl from the other tribe. The
Sappony Indians then bargained to buy her back from Nathaniel for 120
buckskins. They had given 90 skins as a down payment, but before the
Indian girl was returned, she died. The Indians were suing to
retrieve their skins. After his testimony, it was agreed Nathaniel
should return 74 skins to the Indians....In 1721 Nathaniel and Mary
Malone deeded land to George Booth....
Nathaniel Malone left his will dated Jan, 1732, probated 21 Mar
1732 in Southwark Parish, Surry County. Unfortunately a portion is
badly water-stained, but most of it is still legible. In it sons
William, Drury, Daniel, Nathaniel and Thomas can be made out, and
daughters Amy and Courtney. Amy is to be responsible for two other
daughters until they come of age....A son-in-law, Joseph Harper, is
also named, though no daughter's name shows as his wife. From the
Bristol Parish Register comes this notation: "George, son of
Joseph & Susannah Harper born 24 Dec., 1732."....Nathaniel's wife
Mary is not mentioned in the will, and must have died by then. She
may well have died by 1717 since she is not mentioned in her father's
will either, as the other children were.
