William Steel appears in several records in Halifax Co. Va:
Robert Weakley sold to Wm. Steel, 50 A for 23L on April 20, 1794 on a branch of Bradley Cr. (Halifax deed 16 p 207)
Robert Weakley Jr. sold to Henry Baird, 150 A for 50L on June 21, 1794, located between the lands of Robert Weakley, Sam'l Weakley and Wm.. Steel and Wm. Carr. (Halifax deed 16 p 304)
Robert Weakley Jr. and Jane his wife sold to __ Hodges, 115 Acres fo 45L on June 27, 1796, bounded by the lands of Sam'l Weakley, Wm. Steel and Wm. Carr (Halifax 16 p 613)

(Halifax Co. deed 21 p 270) On Oct. a7, 1806 Jane Weakley, Stewart Fambrough, Wm. Steel and wife Polly of Davidson Co. Tenn sold to Robert Fambrough of Halifax Co. Va. the land given to Jane by will of her father, Robert Weakley, Senr., dec'd, 77 Acres for $100. Sam'l Weakley, Robert Heaton, James Hatfield and Isaac Harris were witnesses. (see section B 5-3, page 169).

In the Montg. Co. 1850 Census is: Wm. Steele, 44 years of age.
