According to postings on WorldConnect, Philip Russell was born in 1765 in Lunenburg Co, VA, married Elizabeth Stewart in Pittsylvania Co, VA, and died in 1842 in Williamson Co, IL. His first child was born in Pittsylvania Co in 1798, and the others were born in Montgomery Co, TN before 1810. This tends to confirm that the families might have travelled together.

Phillip Russell married Eliz. Stewart, Jan. 6, 1792 in Pittsylvania Co. Va. (Weakleys and Stewarts again). A descendant of Phillip Russell, Charles Washington Russell, married Martha Ellen Fambrough on Oct. 27, 1879 in Williamson Co, Illinois.In the Wilson Cemetery of Williamson County (USGenweb), there is a listing for:

Married first, Jos/Jas Arnold; Second, Richard Tiner/Tyner; Third James Moyes.The 1870 Census index for Williamson Co (USGenweb) shows a McDowell family on (p. 24); Allice, Alvia, John, Sarah, Thomas (alphabetical order).
They lived in Dickson Co, Tennessee, near Slayden.
"John Stewart, from time to time, sold his land until he had left onlythe 84 acres in the south east section (see aerial photo). This is wherehe and wife, Jean, were living when on Oct. 28, 1805, (Halifax Co deed 20, p. 584) they deeded the 84 acres to their sons-in-law Samuel Irby and Richard Epperson (who in turn sold the land to Daniel Singleton on April24, 1809 for 89 pounds (Halifax Co. deed 22, p. 83).
"The record is as follows: October 28, 1805, John Stewart of the one part and Samuel Irby and Richard Epperson of Halifax Co., Va., of the other part. John Stewart for the sum of $400, conditioned for the maintenance of said John Stewart and Jane, his wife, for and during their natural lives and for further consideration of the sum of five shillings to him in hand paid by the said Samuel Irby and Richard Epperson, does transfer one parcel of land in Halifax Co. on which the said John Stewart lives and ownes; also all of his personal estate of every description; kitchen furniture, cattle, horses, etc.

What is not clear to the author is that Mary, the first child, was not born until 16 years after her parents were married. However, those in the Epperson and Irby families, who were contacted, and who have records said that there were only two children. With so many Stewarts in Halifax County Virginia section, unaccounted for, the author was fearfull that other children were being overlooked.

He was probably born in Lincoln County, Oklahoma. He was the baby and died tragically at age 15, in 1948, born in 1933.
