Samuel Irby

"John Stewart, from time to time, sold his land until he had left onlythe 84 acres in the south east section (see aerial photo). This is wherehe and wife, Jean, were living when on Oct. 28, 1805, (Halifax Co deed20, p. 584) they deeded the 84 acres to their sons-in-law Samuel Irby andRichard Epperson (who in turn sold the land to Daniel Singleton on April24, 1809 for 89 pounds (Halifax Co. deed 22, p. 83).

"The record is as follows: October 28, 1805, John Stewart of the one partand Samuel Irby and Richard Epperson of Halifax Co., Va., of the otherpart. John Stewart for the sum of $400, conditioned for the maintenanceof said John Stewart and Jane, his wife, for and during their naturallives and for further consideration of the sum of five shillings to himin hand paid by the said Samuel Irby and Richard Epperson, does transferone parcel of land in Halifax Co. on which the said John Stewart livesand ownes; also all of his personal estate of every description; kitchenfurniture, cattle, horses, etc.


Nancy Stewart

The Irby and Epperson families of the early perion lived in the Meadville District of Halifax Co....
Luther Anderson Irby of Highland Springs, near Richmond Va. and his sister Eunice of Richmond Va. had a very good record of the Irby famiy and the information obrained from their records are incorporated in this history. They are the great grand children of Samuel Irby and Nancy Stewart and the grandchildren of Nancy Madison Irby (Browder).

Nancy and Samuel had ten children who were:

D.2.2 John Stewart Irby b. 9/14/1794, m. Martha RollinsWilliams 10/14/1817
in Halifax County. He served in War of 1812 and was pensioned for it.

D.2.3 Samuel Irby b. 7/30/1797 and died when a boy.

D.2.4 Catherine Tarpley Irby b. 10/20/1799 m. John R.Chandler 1/24/1822

County.
Jane and I share the same birthday except mine was 125 years after hers.

Co, The family Bible says 10/22/1830 but County Marriage Book gives the
earlier date. John married a second time after Mary, to Elizabeth A., date
and surname not given.

SAW adds to this record, "John Sr., John Jr., William and Daniel McGregor
are mentioned many times in the records of Halifax County. Land on Bradley
Creek was mentioned. In 1838 John and Mary were living on Bye Creek.

"John McGregor and his second wife, and 4 children by his first wife and 2
children by his second wife were living in the Scottsburg section at time
of 1860 census of Halifax County."

D.2.9.1 Dabney Clifton McGregor b. 3/8/31 and was living at home at 1860
census.

D.2.9.2 ***Martha Ann McGregor b. c. 1833 m. John Hightower Henderson
3/6/1850 in Persons Co., North Carolina. A daughter - Mrs.Jim Harper
lived in Nathilie, Halifax County.

D.2.9.3 Elizabeth Shelton McGregor b. c. 1839 m. Richard Compton

D.2.9.4 Catherine Jane McGregor b. c. 1842 m. John Henderson

D.2.9.5 Elvira Caval McGregor b. c. 1843 m. James Schofield Echols (@

D.2.9.6 Emily Johnson McGregor b. c. 1844 m. Henry Evans Echols. Both
were
buried near Redden, Halifax County. SAW said Emily had a daughter in
Vernon Hill, Halifax County who was Mrs. D. L. Shaw.
